Betty merasa kesulitan membesarkan keenam anaknya sendirian, selain itu ia harus mencukupi semua kebutuhan anak-anaknya tersebut. Ia berusaha mencari solusi permasalahannya tersebut dengan menjual hak film Autobiografi kepada pembuat film [[Marvin Worth]] pada tahun 1966. Film tersebut mulai menghasilkan penghasilan yang dapat digunakan oleh Betty untuk keluarganya. Selain menjadi ibu rumah tangga yang baik, Betty juga menjadi anggota aktif di organisasi orang tua pusat penitipan anak ketika ia mulai menitipkan anak-anaknya disana. Kemudian ia juga menjadi wakil orang tua di dewan sekolah. Hingga beberapa tahun setelahnya, Betty menjadi presiden [[Dewan Perawatan Hari Westchester.|Westchester Day Care Council.]]{{sfn|Rickford|pp=353}}
