Sejarah

Piagam Bojong menunjukkan bahwa tahun 1500 hingga 1800 Masehi Lampung dikuasai oleh kesultanan Banten.

Putra mahkota Banten, Sultan Haji, menyerahkan beberapa wilayah kekuasaan Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa kepada Belanda. Di dalamnya termasuk Lampung sebagai hadiah bagi Belanda karena membantu melawan Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa.

Permintaan itu termuat dalam surat Sultan Haji kepada Mayor Issac de Saint Martin, Admiral kapal VOC di Batavia yang sedang berlabuh di Banten. Surat bertanggal 12 Maret 1682 itu isinya, Saya minta tolong, nanti daerah Tirtayasa dan negeri-negeri yang menghasilkan lada seperti Lampung dan tanah-tanah lainnya sebagaimana diinginkan Mayor/ Kapten Moor, akan segera serahkan kepada kompeni.

Surat itu kemudian dikuatkan dengan surat perjanjian tanggal 22 Agustus 1682 yang membuat VOC memperoleh hak monopoli perdagangan lada di Lampung.

Akan tetapi, upaya menguasai pasar lada hitam Lampung kurang memperoleh sambutan baik. Pada 21 November 1682 VOC kembali ke pulau Jawa hanya membawa 744.188 ton lada hitam seharga 62.292,312 gulden.

Dari angka itu dapat disimpulkan bahwa Lampung kala itu dikenal sebagai penghasil lada hitam utama. Lada hitam pula yang mengilhami berbagai negara Eropa ambil bagian dalam konstelasi politik Nusantara kala itu. Penguasaan sumber rempah-rempah dunia berarti menguasai perdagangan dunia-dan tentu saja wilayah.

Letak dan kondisi alam

Provinsi Lampung memiliki luas 35.376,50 km² dan terletak di antara 105°45'-103°48' BT dan 3°45'-6°45' LS. Daerah ini di sebelah barat berbatasan dengan Selat Sunda dan di sebelah timur dengan Laut Jawa. Beberapa pulau termasuk dalam wilayah Provinsi Lampung, yang sebagian besar terletak di Teluk Lampung, di antaranya: Pulau Darot, Pulau Legundi, Pulau Tegal, Pulau Sebuku, Pulau Ketagian, Pulau Sebesi, Pulau Poahawang, Pulau Krakatau, Pulau Putus, dan Pulau Tabuan. Ada juga Pulau Tampang dan Pulau Pisang di yang masuk ke wilayah Kabupaten Lampung Barat.

Keadaan alam Lampung, di sebelah barat dan selatan, di sepanjang pantai merupakan daerah yang berbukit-bukit sebagai sambungan dari jalur Bukit Barisan di Pulau Sumatera. Di tengah-tengah merupakan dataran rendah. Sedangkan ke dekat pantai di sebelah timur, di sepanjang tepi Laut Jawa terus ke utara, merupakan perairan yang luas.

Sungai-sungai yang mengalir di daerah Lampung menurut panjang dan cathment area (c.a)-nya adalah:

Way Sekampung mengalir di daerah kabupaten Tanggamus dan Lampung Selatan. Anak sungainya banyak, tetapi tidak ada yang panjangnya sampai 100 km. Hanya ada satu sungai yang panjangnya 51 km dengan c.a. 106,97 km2 ialah Way Ketibung di Kalianda.

• Way Giham, panjang 80 km, c.a. 506,25 km2

Way Mesuji yang mengalir di perbatasan provinsi Lampung dan Sumatera Selatan di sebelah utara mempunyai anak sungai bernama Sungai Buaya, sepanjang 70 km dengan c.a. 347,5 km2.

Hutan-hutan besar di dataran rendah dapat dikatakan sudah habis dimanfaatkan untuk keepentingan pembangunan pertanian, untuk para transmigran yang terus-menerus memasuki daerah ini. Kayu-kayu hasil hutan diekspor ke luar negeri. Hutan-hutan yang masih ada, yang tanahnya dapat dikatakan belum banyak dibuka sebagian besar terletak di sebelah barat, di daerah Bukit Barisan Selatan.

Beberapa kota di daerah provinsi Lampung yang tingginya 50 m lebih dari permukaan laut adalah: Tanjungkarang (96 m), Kedaton (100 m), Metro (53), Gisting (480 m), Negerisakti (100 m), Pringsewu (50 m), Pekalongan (50 m), Batanghari (65 m), Punggur (50 m), Padangratu (56 m), Wonosobo (50 m), Kedondong (80 m), Sidomulyo (75 m), Kasui (200 m), Sri Menanti (320 m), dan Kota Liwa (850 m).

Potensi daerah

Lampung fokus pada pengembangan lahan bagi perkebunan besar seperti kelapa sawit, kopi, jagung dan tebu. Dan di beberapa daerah pesisir, komoditas perikanan seperti tambak udang lebih menonjol, bahkan untuk tingkat nasional.

Pariwisata

Tahun 2009 Pemerintah Propinsi Lampung mencanangkan tahun kunjungan wisata. Jenis Wisata yang dapat dikunjungi diLampung adalah Wisata Budaya dibeberapa Kampung Tua diSukau,Liwa,Kembahang,Batu Brak,Kenali,Ranau dan Krui diLampung Barat dan Festival Sekura yang diadakan dalam seminggu setelah Idul Fitri diLampung Barat,Festival Krakatau di Bandar Lampung,Festival Teluk Stabas diLampung Barat,Festival Way Kambas di Lampung Timur.

Pengganti Sementara

Industri

Sebagai gerbang Sumatera, di Lampung sangat potensial berkembang berbagai jenis industri. Mulai dari industri kecil (kerajinan) hingga industri besar, terutama di bidang agrobisnis. Industri penambakan udang termasuk salah satu tambak yang terbesar didunia setelah adanya penggabungan usaha antara Bratasena, Dipasena dan Wachyuni Mandira. Terdapat juga pabrik gula dengan produksi pertahun mencapai 600.000 ton oleh 2 pabrik yaitu Gunung Madu Plantation dan Sugar group. di tahun 2007 kembali diresmikan pembangunan 1 pabrik gula lagi dibawah PT Pemuka Sakti Manis Indah (PSMI) yang diproyeksikan akan mulai produksi pada tahun 2008. Industri agribisnis lainnya : Ketela (ubi), Kelapa Sawit, coklat, kokoa, Nata de coco dll

Tapis Lampung

Kain Tapis adalah pakaian wanita suku Lampung yang berbentuk kain sarung terbuat dari tenun benang kapas dengan motif atau hiasan bahan sugi, benang perak atau benang emas dengan sistim sulam (Lampung; "Cucuk"). Dengan demikian yang dimaksud dengan Tapis Lampung adalah hasil tenun benang kapas dengan motif, benang perak atau benang emas dan menjadi pakaian khas suku Lampung. Jenis tenun ini biasanya digunakan pada bagian pinggang ke bawah berbentuk sarung yang terbuat dari benang kapas dengan motif seperti motif alam, flora dan fauna yang disulam dengan benang emas dan benang perak. Tapis Lampung termasuk kerajian tradisional karena peralatan yang digunakan dalam membuat kain dasar dan motif-motif hiasnya masih sederhana dan dikerjakan oleh pengerajin. Kerajinan ini dibuat oleh wanita, baik ibu rumah tangga maupun gadis-gadis (muli-muli) yang pada mulanya untuk mengisi waktu senggang dengan tujuan untuk memenuhi tuntutan adat istiadat yang dianggap sakral. Kain Tapis saat ini diproduksi oleh pengrajin dengan ragam hias yang bermacam-macam sebagai barang komoditi yang memiliki nilai ekonomis yang cukup tinggi.

Seni dan budaya

Sastra

Lampung menjadi lahan yang subur bagi pertumbuhan sastra, baik sastra (berbahasa) Indonesia maupun sastra (berbahasa) Lampung.

Teater

Perkembangan teater di Lampung banyak dilatarbelakangi dari keinginan para pelajar dan mahasiswa yang tergabung dalam kelompok seni untuk mendalami seni peran dan pertunjukkan. Beberapa kelompok teater kampus dan pelajar yang masih tercatat aktif sampai saat ini adalah teater Kurusetra (UKMBS Unila), KSS (FKIP Unila), Green Teater (Umitra), Teater Biru (Darmajaya), Teater Kapuk (STAIN Metro), Teater Sudirman 41 (SMUN 1 Bdl), Teater Gemma (SMUN 2 Bdl), Teater Palapa (SMUN 3 Bdl), Teater Madani(SMUN 5 Bdl), Teater Handayani (SMUN 7 Bdl),Kolastra (SMUN 9 Bdl), Teater sebelas (SMUN 11 Bdl), Teater Pelopor (SMU Perintis 1 Bdl), Insyaallah Teater (SMU Perintis 2 Bdl), Teater Cupido (SMUN 1 Sumberjaya).

Sedangkan beberapa teater yang digerakkan seniman-seniman Lampung yaitu Teater Satu, Komunitas Berkat Yakin (Kober), Teater Kuman, Teater Sendiri. Penggerak teater di Lampung yang masih eksis mengembangkan seni pertunjukkan teater melalui karya-karyanya antara lain Iswadi Pratama, Ari Pahala Hutabarat, Robi akbar, M. Yunus, Edi Samudra Kertagama, Ahmad Jusmar, Imas Sobariah, Ahmad Zilalin, Darmawan. Lampung tidak hanya dikenal banyak melahirkan sastrawan-sastrawan baru namun aktor-aktor potensial pun juga tidak sedikit yang muncul seperti, Rendie Dadang Yusliadi, Robi Akbar, Eyie, Iin Mutmainah, M Yunus, Dedi Nio, Liza Mutiara Afriani, Iskandar GB, Ruth Marini.

Dalam tiap tahunnya even-even teater seperti pertunjukkan, lomba, workshop dan diskusi kerap digelar di Provinsi ini serta tempat tempat yang sering digunakan adalah Gedung Teater Tertutup Taman Budaya Lampung, Auditorium RRI, GSG UNILA, Academic Centre STAIN Metro, Gedung PKM Unila, Aula FKIP Unila, Pasar Seni Enggal.

Adapun even tahunan teater yang terbesar di Lampung adalah Liga Teater SLTA se-Provinsi Lampung sebagai ajang apresiasi para aktor Pelajar LAmpung yang kualitasnya tidak kalah dengan pelajar di luar Lampung.

Musik

Sebagaimana sebuah daerah, Lampung memiliki beraneka ragam jenis musik, mulai dari jenis tradisional hingga modern (musik modern yang mengadopsi kebudayaan musik global.red). Adapun jenis musik yang masih bertahan hingga sekarang adalah: Klasik Lampung, jenis musik ini biasanya diiringi oleh alat musik gambus dan gitar akustik. Mungkin jenis musik ini merupakan perpaduan budaya Islam dan budaya asli itu sendiri. Beberapa kegiatan festival diadakan dengan tujuan untuk mengembangkan budaya musik tradisional tanpa harus khawatir akan kehilangan jati diri. Festival Krakatau contohnya, adalah sebuah Festival yang diadakan oleh Pemda Lampung yang bertujuan untuk mengenalkan Lampung kepada dunia luar dan sekaligus menjadi ajang promosi pariwisata.

Tari

Ada berbagai jenis tarian yang merupakan aset budaya Provinsi Lampung. Salah satu jenis tarian yang terkenal adalah Tari Sembah. Ritual tari sembah biasanya diadakan oleh masyarakat lampung untuk menyambut dan memberikan penghormatan kepada para tamu atau undangan yang datang, mungkin bolehlah dikatakan sebagai sebuah tarian penyambutan. Selain sebagai ritual penyambutan, tari sembah pun kerap kali dilaksanakan dalam upacara adat pernikahan masyarakan Lampung.
