Kereta api Mutiara Selatan adalah kereta api kelas Campuran yang dioperasikan PT Kereta Api Indonesia di Pulau Jawa dengan jurusan Bandung - Surabaya - Malang dan sebaliknya. Sebelumnya, PT KAI menjalankan kereta api ini sebagai kereta kelas bisnis. Rangkaian kereta ini pernah di ubah menjadi rangkaian Ekonomi New Image 2016, tetapi Rangkaian ini hanya bertahan selama kurang lebih 2 minggu saja.

Rangkaian

Semula, semenjak operasional pertamanya pada 1970-an, kereta api ini dijalankan dengan rangkaian campuran kelas bisnis dan eksekutif, bersama dengan kereta api ekspres malam Turangga yang juga memiliki konfigurasi kelas bisnis dan eksekutif. Tetapi, mulai 11 Oktober 1999, semua rangkaian kereta api Mutiara Selatan diganti dengan kelas bisnis, sedang Turangga menjadi kereta api kelas eksekutif. Pada 28 September 2016, kereta api Mutiara Selatan diganti seluruh rangkaiannya dengan kereta ekonomi terbaru buatan tahun 2016.

Kereta api ini melayani penumpang dengan rangkaiannya yang terdiri atas 6-8 kereta ekonomi rangkaian terbaru (K3), 1 kereta makan dan pembangkit (MP3), dan 2 kereta barang hantaran paket (B). Mulai 3 Oktober 2016, Kereta api Mutiara Selatan dari Bandung ke Surabaya dan diperpanjang rute sampai ke Malang.

Pada saat ini, kereta api Mutiara Selatan kembali menggunakan rangkaian lamanya yang merupakan kereta kelas bisnis, dikarenakan adanya masalah kenyamanan penumpang. Saat ini, kereta api tersebut menggunakan rangkaian enam kereta bisnis, satu kereta makan dan pembangkit, serta kereta bagasi.

Mulai 13 Maret 2017, Kereta Mutiara Selatan kembali membawa kereta eksekutif dan bisnis pada masa sebelumnya tahun 1972 lalu.

Tarif

Tarif kereta api ini adalah antara Rp 240.000,00 - Rp 360.000,00, bergantung pada jarak tempuh, subkelas/posisi tempat duduk dalam rangkaian kereta, serta hari-hari tertentu seperti akhir pekan dan libur nasional. Selain itu, berlaku pula tarif khusus yang hanya dapat dipesan di loket stasiun mulai dua jam sebelum keberangkatan kereta api ini pada rute sebagai berikut:

Yogyakarta-Madiun maupun sebaliknya Rp50.000,00
Madiun-Surabaya maupun sebaliknya Rp65.000,00
Surabaya-Malang maupun sebaliknya Rp45.000,00

Khusus relasi Surabaya-Malang maupun sebaliknya dapat dipesan sejak 90 hari sebelum keberangkatan

Jadwal perjalanan

Berikut jadwal perjalanan kereta api Mutiara Selatan berdasarkan Gapeka 2017.^[1] KA Mutiara Selatan diberangkatkan dari Stasiun Malang pada pukul 16.30 WIB tiba di Stasiun Bandung pada pukul 08.33 WIB dan berangkat dari Stasiun Bandung pada pukul 16.50 WIB tiba di Stasiun Malang pada pukul 09.38 WIB.
