Miniatur (naskah beriluminasi)

Kata miniature, yang berasal dari kata Latin minium, tinta merah, adalah sebuah gambar dalam manuskrip teriluminasi kuno atau abad pertengahan; dekorasi sederhana dari kodeks-kodeks awal diminiaturkan atau didelineasikan dengan pigmen.
Selain dari tradisi Barat dan Bizantium, terdapat tradisi kelompok Asia lainnya yang umumnya lebih ilustratif dengan alam, dan asal muasal dekorasi buku manuskrip juga dikembangkan dalam lukisan-lukisan kecil lembar tunggal yang disimpan dalam album, yang juga disebut miniatur
