Babak kedua Zona AFC dari Kualifikasi Piala Dunia FIFA 2022, yang juga berfungsi sebagai putaran kedua Kualifikasi Piala Asia AFC 2023, dimainkan dari 5 September 2019 hingga 15 Juni 2021.[1][2][3]
Format
Sebanyak empat puluh tim diundi ke dalam delapan grup yang terdiri dari lima tim untuk memainkan pertandingan round-robin dengan sistem kandang dan tandang. Mereka termasuk 34 tim (tim peringkat 1-34 di Daftar peserta AFC) yang menerima bye ke babak ini, dan enam pemenang dari babak pertama.
Tujuh juara grup (tidak termasuk Qatar, yang sudah lolos ke Piala Dunia sebagai tuan rumah turnamen) dan lima runner-up terbaik melaju ke babak ketiga.
Pertandingan di babak ini juga merupakan bagian dari tahapan Kualifikasi Piala Asia AFC 2023.[4] Dua belas tim yang melaju ke babak ketiga kualifikasi Piala Dunia dan Qatar, sebagai juara grup, otomatis lolos ke Piala Asia AFC 2023.[5] Dua puluh empat tim (dua puluh dua yang maju langsung dan dua yang akan maju dari babak play-off tambahan)[6] akan bermain di babak ketiga kualifikasi Piala Asia AFC untuk menentukan sebelas tim yang tersisa. Secara total, Piala Asia AFC 2023 akan menampilkan 24 tim.
Pengundian
Pengundian putaran kedua diadakan pada 17 Juli 2019 pukul 17:00 MST (UTC+8), di AFC House di Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.[7]

Jadwal
Jadwal setiap matchday adalah sebagai berikut.
Pada 5 Maret 2020, FIFA mengumumkan bahwa mereka akan memantau situasi kesehatan di wilayah tersebut untuk kemungkinan penjadwalan ulang matchday 7 hingga 10 karena Pandemi Covid-19.[9] Kemudian pada 9 Maret, FIFA dan AFC bersama-sama mengumumkan bahwa pertandingan pada matchday 7-10 yang dijadwalkan berlangsung pada Maret dan Juni 2020 ditunda, dengan tanggal baru yang akan dikonfirmasi. Namun, tunduk pada persetujuan FIFA dan AFC, dan persetujuan dari kedua asosiasi anggota, pertandingan dapat dimainkan sesuai jadwal asalkan keselamatan semua individu yang terlibat memenuhi standar yang dipersyaratkan.[10][11] Pada 5 Juni, AFC mengkonfirmasi bahwa matchday 7 dan 8 dijadwalkan berlangsung pada 8 dan 13 Oktober, sedangkan matchday 9 dan 10 dijadwalkan dimulai pada 12 dan 17 November.[12] Pada 12 Agustus, FIFA mengumumkan bahwa pertandingan yang dijadwalkan untuk Oktober dan November 2020 akan dijadwal ulang ke tahun 2021.[13][14]
Pada 11 November 2020, Komite Kompetisi AFC menyetujui pada pertemuan ketiganya bahwa semua pertandingan babak kedua yang tersisa harus diselesaikan pada 15 Juni 2021 dengan matchday 7 dan 8 pada Maret 2021 dan matchday 9 dan 10 pada Juni 2021.[3] Namun, pada hari yang sama, FIFA, bersama dengan asosiasi Bangladesh dan Qatar, memberikan persetujuan untuk satu-satunya pertandingan putaran kedua yang semula dijadwalkan untuk tahun 2020, Qatar versus Bangladesh, yang dimainkan pada 4 Desember.[15]
Pada 19 Februari 2021, FIFA dan AFC menunda sebagian besar pertandingan mendatang hingga Juni 2021.[16]
Catatan: Tempat grup Qatar dan Bangladesh ditukar karena partisipasi Qatar yang akan direncanakan mengikuti Copa América 2020, yang kemudian ditangguhkan menjadi Copa América 2021).

Secara umum tuan rumah ini adalah tim unggulan (Pot 1) dari masing-masing grup.
