Wikipedia bahasa Indonesia (baca: Wi·ki·pé·di·a ba·ha·sa In·do·ne·si·a) adalah versi bahasa Indonesia ensiklopedia Wikipedia sebagai ensiklopedia yang dapat disunting bebas oleh siapa saja yang terdapat dalam jaringan internet.

Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia menjadi Wikipedia ketiga tercepat pertumbuhannya di Asia setelah Wikipedia Bahasa Mandarin dan Wikipedia Bahasa Jepang, dan disaat yang sama menjadi Wikipedia terbesar di negara berkembang pada tahun 2006. [1].

Artikel pertamanya adalah "Elektron", yang mulai disunting pada tanggal 30 Mei 2003 [2] [3], Halaman utamanya sendiri pertama kali dibuat enam bulan kemudian pada tanggal 29 November [4].

Kontributor

Awalnya, kontributor yang pertama kali dikenal oleh media massa di Indonesia adalah Revo Soekatno. Pada tahun 2004 Majalah Tempo mewawancarainya dan oleh Revo Wikipedia dideskripsikan sebagai "Ensiklopedia dari Kamar Kos". Revo juga menyebutkan potensi yang dimiliki oleh Wikipedia dengan menunjukkan bahwa bahasa-bahasa lain yang dipetuturkan di Indonesia seperti Wikipedia Bahasa Jawa dan Wikipedia Bahasa Sunda sudah menjadi Wikipedia versinya sendiri-sendiri. Tempo magazine addressed that the contributors may not be famous in the real world, as they may not be listed in important seminars and talk shows, nor recognized by Indonesian top scientists[6].

On 2006, TIME's article person of the year "You" (2006) [7] explores community and collaboration in Wikipedia, and KOMPAS followed it by published a feature article of Revo as the "father of Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia". The article also highlights the spirit to contribute as "Addiction in the cyber space that needs to be endorsed" [8] [9]. Other media refer to Wikipedian contributor Revo Soekatno as an "activist that builds a community portal in Indonesia" admiring his contributions as the one thing that makes Indonesian Wikipedia known in the internet [10].

In February 2009, the Indonesian Wikipedia achieved its milestone of reaching 100 thousand articles. One of the contributor mentioned in the article was user borgx, who made 80 thousands edits since 2005, the year he is registered as user. The Indonesian Wikipedia at that point have fifty active contributors [11] [12].

Workshop and seminars

  • In March 2007 Indonesian Wikipedia contributors, known as wikipedians, were invited to speak at the first Wikipedia seminar for the public, and to explain what is Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia and the Wikimedia Foundation project in general, in Bina Nusantara University, Jakarta [13]. The invitation mentioned that the highlight of the event was to meet the "Father of Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia," Revo Soekatno. In November 2007 the Indonesian Government through its Department of Communication and Information held an annual Indonesian ICT Award and invited the Indonesian Wikipedia Community to hold a workshop on how to write in the Wikipedia [14] [15]. Ivan Lanin, one of the speakers interviewed by antara stated that the number of contributors to the Indonesian Wikipedia is rising, and the articles beginning to vary. Revo adds that the challenge for the Indonesian Wikipedia in the future will be how to add credibility and public assurance about the information given in the Indonesian Wikipedia. On the first day of the workshop there were 40 people attending, while the computers provided for the hands-on practice were limited, and considerably fewer than the participants[16]. One of the participants wrote in his blog that he was very excited about participating in the Wikipedia workshop and learned a lot, so excited that he forgot to have lunch and felt dizzy afterwards[17].
  • In 2008 a similar event was held for the Indonesian ICT Award; this time the Indonesian Wikipedia held one session for the public and another for organizations[18].

In August 2008, the Indonesian version of CHIP Magazine distributed a complimentary DVD consisting of more than 80,000 articles (without article images) for their 11th birthday edition. This edition also featured a three-page Wikipedia article titled "Wikipedia: When one thousand brains are better than one". The article discussed Wikipedia history, Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia, and Wikimedia Indonesia (still in the preparation stage at the time)[19].

However, before the release of Chip's Indonesian Wikipedia DVD, an unofficial version of the Indonesian Wikipedia offline DVD with images had already existed since April 2008 and could be purchased online for 20 thousand rupiah, around USD 2.00, from an independent vendor [20].

Fasilitas antarmuka

  • Kolom "Peristiwa terkini" muncul pertama kalinya pada 14 November 2004 dengan judul "Berita Utama". Sebelum adanya kolom tersebut, terdapat bagian "aktualitas" dengan pranala-pranala (link) ke artikel mengenai topik-topik yang sedang hangat dibicarakan. Kolom "hari ini dalam sejarah" pertama kali ditulis pada 14 Desember 2004. Kolom ini berisi peristiwa-peristiwa penting dalam sejarah yang terjadi pada tanggal tersebut. Kolom "hari ini dalam sejarah" secara otomatis berganti setiap hari.
  • Bagian "Artikel Pilihan" dalam format sekarang ini diperkenalkan pada 21 Desember 2004 melalui pemilihan artikel Arsenikum. Sebelumnya telah ada kolom dengan "artikel pilihan," namun format yang digunakan hanyalah berupa pranala-pranala ke beberapa artikel pilihan tersebut. Penggantian artikel pilihan awalnya tidak teratur tetapi sejak 18 Juni 2006, artikel pilihan sudah diganti secara rutin setiap 10 hari.
  • Fasilitas antarmuka "Gambar pilihan" pertama kali muncul pada 19 Desember 2005, menampilkan sebuah gambar yang dianggap merupakan gambar pilihan dan diganti secara otomatis setiap minggu. Fasilitas antarmuka terakhir dari Wikipedia yang ditambahkan adalah fasilitas antar muka "Tahukah Anda?" yang mulai ditulis pada 9 Juni 2006. Fasilitas antarmuka yang berisi trivia-trivia ini diganti secara otomatis setiap hari.

Pengguna aktif

Pengguna aktif Wikipedia Indonesia berasal dari seantero belahan bumi. Sebagian besar pengguna mengakses Wikipedia dari Jakarta, Indonesia, namun ada bagian yang tak kurang besar juga berasal dari daerah-daerah lain di Indonesia. Para pengguna yang tidak berlokasi di Indonesia juga cukup besar jumlahnya. Hal ini menunjukkan sebuah indikasi bahwa Wikipedia Indonesia bisa dikatakan aktif secara internasional.

DVD yang berisi 80 ribu lebih artikel dalam Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia untuk pertama kalinya secara resmi disebarluaskan sebagai suplemen dalam majalah CHIP edisi Bahasa Indonesia pada Agustus 2008 bersamaan dengan ulang tahun majalah tersebut yang ke-11. Dalam DVD ini tidak ditampilkan gambar dikarenakan masalah hak cipta gambar.

Proyek lainnya

Proyek Wiki lainnya dalam bahasa Indonesia antara lain adalah Wikiquote, Wiktionary, Wikibooks dan Wikisource yang per 13 September 2006 memiliki jumlah halaman secara berturut-turut adalah 736, 12.133, 332 dan 143. Proyek-proyek lainnya tersebut tidaklah seaktif Wikipedia, sedangkan proyek Wiki lainnya yang belum ada versi bahasa Indonesianya adalah Wikinews dan yang terbaru, Wikiversity.
