Sejarah

Area kota Albany sekarang dulunya dihuni oleh Creek Indians, yang menyebut tempat itu Thronateeska berdasarkan kata "flint" karena penemuan bahan mineral flint di dekat sungai.[5] Orang Creek menggunakan flintstone ini untuk membuat peralatan dan senjata misalnya kepala anak panah.

Permukiman orang kulit putih dimulai oleh Nelson Tift, seorang pengusaha dari Connecticut, yang menguasai tanah sepanjang Sungai Flint pada bulan Oktober 1836 setelah pengusiran orang Indian. Orang Creek dipaksa untuk pindah ke Indian Territory di sebelah barat sungai Mississippi. Tift menamai kota barunya "Albany" seperti ibu kota negara bagian New York; keduanya sama-sama terletak di hulu sungai-sungai yang dapat dilayari.
