John Knox

pendeta, penulis dan sejarawan Skotlandia (1514-1572)

John Knox adalah salah seorang tokoh yang mempengaruhih gerakan reformasi di Skotlandia.[2][3] Ia merupakan salah satu murid Calvin di Jenewa, sehingga kesadaran teokratis Calvin sudah memuncak dalam dirinya.[2]

Riwayat Singkat

John Knox lahir sekitar tahun 1513 di Haddington, tidak jauh dari Edinburgh.[4][5][6] Ia belajar di Universitas St. Andrews lalu ditahbiskan menjadi pendeta.[6] Selama beberapa tahun berikutnya Knox merantau ke mana-mana: ia menjadi budak kapal Perancis selama sembilan belas bulan dan ia pernah tinggal di Inggris pada bagian akhir pemerintahan Edward VI dan ikut dalam tahap-tahap terakhir penyelesaian Book of Common Prayer dari Cranmer pada 1552, serta ia pernah menjadi gembala jemaat Inggris dalam pelarian di Frankfurt (tempat ia terlibat pertikaian).[6]
