Xankendi or Stepanakert

sunting

Hello Baki66, I noticed you just changed Stepanakert to Xankendi. However in English Wikipedia it is still called Stepanakert. Can you elaborate please? Thank you. Meursault2004ngobrol 20:39, 3 Juli 2007 (UTC)

Wallaikum Salaam. Thank you for your reply. Well the name Xankendi, sorry for the spelling :-) is indeed the name before USSR was founded. But according to en:, it used to have an Armenian name: Varakan or something. Stepanakert is perhaps not politically correct as it is based on the name of an Armenian communist, but is neutral.
You know. Personally I am a bit confused after the collapse of the USSR. Some well known cities with Russian names such as Lvov, Kiev, Alma-Ata now are called Lviv, Kyiv and Almaty :-) Well I'll leave it this way for now. Salaam! Meursault2004ngobrol 21:18, 3 Juli 2007 (UTC)
Hey but the article is unlocked at this moment. Meursault2004ngobrol 17:40, 12 Juli 2007 (UTC)
Hmm I am sorry but I have to wait first ... Although I have to admit that your argument is right. I just asked other administrators about this matter. Unless you agree to rename the article to Xankendi-Stepanakert or Stepanakert-Xankendi, I won't be able to protect this article. Salam. Meursault2004ngobrol 22:33, 12 Juli 2007 (UTC)
