Pemisahan suku bangsa di Amerika Serikat
Segregasi ras di Amerika Serikat, sebagai istilah umum, meliputi segregasi atau pemisahan fasilitas dan jasa seperti perumahan, perawatan medis, pendidikan, pekerjaan, dan transportasi berdasarkan pada ras. Istilah tersebut sering kali merujuk kepada pemisahan orang-orang Afrika Amerika dari ras lainnya dengan paksa secara hukum atau sosial, tetapi juga mengacu kepada diskriminasi terhadap orang kulit berwarna oleh komunitas orang kulit putih.[1]

Istilah tersebut merujuk kepada pemisahan fisik dan penyediaan fasilitas "terpisah namun setara", walaupun kenyataannya fasilitas-fasilitas tersebut sering kali tidak setara,[2] serta bentuk-bentuk diskriminasi ras lainnya, seperti pemisahan peran di dalam sebuah lembaga: contohnya dalam Angkatan Bersenjata Amerika Serikat sebelum 1950an, satuan orang kulit hitam biasanya dipisahkan dari satuan orang kulit putih, tetapi dipimpin oleh para perwira kulit putih.[3]
