Kereta api Kutojaya Utara adalah kereta api Kelas Ekonomi AC yang melayani koridor Kutoarjo - Pasar Senen.

KA Kutojaya Utara pada awalnya bernama KA Sawunggalih Ekonomi dan dioperasikan sejak 31 Mei 1977 dengan relasi Pasar Senen - Kutoarjo. Sejak tahun 2001, KA Sawunggalih Ekonomi yang sebelumnya berangkat dari Pasar Senen dialihkan ke Tanah Abang bersama dengan KA Brantas dan KA Bengawan. Sejak saat itu nama KA Sawunggalih Ekonomi berubah menjadi KA Kutojaya Ekonomi dan kini dikenal sebagai KA Kutojaya Utara. Seiring dengan pesatnya pertumbuhan penumpang kereta api baik kereta api jarak jauh maupun KRL membuat Stasiun Tanah Abang menjadi stasiun khusus yang hanya melayani KRL dan kereta-kereta lokal ke arah barat sehingga efektif per 1 Januari 2013 pembarangkatan KA Kutojaya Utara pun dialihkan kembali ke Stasiun Pasar Senen bersama dengan KA Brantas dan KA Bengawan.

Okupansi KA Kutojaya Utara terbilang sangat bagus untuk kereta kelas ekonomi. Hal ini terlihat dari tingkat keterisian tempat duduk di atas 80% pada weekdays dan 100% pada weekend maupun hari libur. Tak heran jika hampir setiap hari KA Kutojaya Utara membawa 9 sampai 11 kereta ekonomi (belum termasuk kereta makan dan kereta aling-aling) sehingga harus ditarik lokomotif CC206. Ketika masa lebaran, KA Kutojaya Utara selalu mendapat alokasi kereta tambahan lebih dari satu rangkaian. Hal ini dimaklumi karena rute KA Kutojaya Utara sendiri melayani rute pada jalur kantong seperti Kutoarjo, Kebumen, Karanganyar, Gombong, Sumpiuh, Kroya, Purwokerto, sampai Bumiayu.

KA Kutojaya Utara beberapa kali mendapat jatah K3 (kereta kelas ekonomi) baru yaitu pada tahun 1993, 2006, dan 2009 (rangkaian berwarna orange-hijau khas Nutrisari). Sementara pada tahun 2016, KA Kutojaya Utara Ekstra Lebaran mendapat K3 baru dari INKA dengan interior eksekutif berkapasitas 80 tempat duduk per kereta. Mulai Juli 2011, semua rangkaian kereta KA Kutojaya Utara yang sebelumnya berkode PWT (Purwokerto) menjadi KTA (Kutoarjo).
