Grand Prix F1 Brasil 2014
Grand Prix Brasil 2014 (secara resmi bernama Formula 1 Grande Prêmio Petrobras do Brasil 2014) merupakan sebuah lomba balapan mobil Formula Satu yang diselenggarakan di Autódromo José Carlos Pace pada tanggal 9 November 2014. Lomba yang berlangsung selama 71 putaran ini berhasil dimenangkan oleh pembalap Mercedes GP, yaitu Nico Rosberg.[1] Rekan setimnya, yaitu Lewis Hamilton, finis di posisi kedua, dan pembalap Williams, yaitu Felipe Massa, finis di urutan ketiga. Itu adalah kemenangan kelima Rosberg di musim ini, dan yang kedelapan dalam karirnya.

Rosberg berhasil meraih posisi pole dengan mencatatkan putaran tercepat di sesi kualifikasi, dan mempertahankan keunggulan hingga pit stop pertamanya di akhir putaran ketujuh. Nico Hülkenberg memimpin jalannya lomba setelah pit stop Hamilton pada putaran kedelapan, dan menahannya sampai Rosberg menyusulnya enam putaran kemudian. Hamilton kembali memimpin jalannya lomba ketika Rosberg melakukan pit stop kedua 12 putaran kemudian, tetapi putaran di tikungan keempat selama putaran ekstra dia berada di trek kehilangan posisinya. Dengan ban depan yang melepuh, Hamilton tetap berada di dekat Rosberg pada saat pit-stop siklus ketiga, tetapi Rosberg berhasil menahan laju rekan setimnya tersebut untuk memenangkan balapan.
Hasilnya memungkinkan Rosberg untuk menurunkan keunggulan Hamilton di klasemen sementara Kejuaraan Dunia Pembalap menjadi 17 poin, sementara Daniel Ricciardo berhasil mengamankan tempat ketiga, meskipun pensiun dengan masalah suspensi. Sebastian Vettel dan Fernando Alonso masing-masing naik satu posisi untuk naik ke peringkat keempat dan kelima. Latar belakang sebelum lomba
Grand Prix Brasil 2014 adalah balapan yang ke-18 dari 19 putaran di Kejuaraan Dunia Formula Satu 2014, dan putaran yang ke-42 dari balapan tersebut sebagai bagian dari seri.[2] Balapan itu diadakan pada tanggal 9 November di 4.309 km (2.677 mi) 15 putaran Autódromo José Carlos Pace di São Paulo.[2] Seperti di Grand Prix Amerika Serikat seminggu sebelumnya, pemilik hak komersial Formula Satu, yaitu Bernie Ecclestone, memberikan dispensasi kepada tim Caterham dan Marussia untuk melewatkan balapan karena perjuangan keuangan mereka yang sedang berlangsung, ditambah dengan tingginya biaya perjalanan ke belahan bumi barat dan jeda satu minggu antara Grand Prix Amerika Serikat dan Brasil.[3] Sistem pengurang hambatan (DRS) memiliki dua zona aktivasi untuk balapan: satu di lurus yang menghubungkan tikungan ketiga dan keempat, dan yang kedua di jalur lurusan yang menghubungkan tikungan final dan pertama.[2] Nama resmi balapan ini adalah Formula 1 Grande Prêmio Petrobras do Brasil 2014.[4]
Sebelum balapan, pembalap Mercedes, yaitu Lewis Hamilton, memimpin klasemen sementara Kejuaraan Dunia Pembalap dengan 316 poin, unggul 24 poin dari rekan setimnya, yaitu Nico Rosberg, di posisi kedua dan Daniel Ricciardo ketiga. Valtteri Bottas berada di urutan keempat dengan 155 poin, unggul enam poin dari Sebastian Vettel di urutan kelima.[5] Meskipun Kejuaraan Dunia Pembalap belum dimenangkan, namun tim Mercedes berhasil merebut Kejuaraan Dunia Konstruktor di Grand Prix Rusia. Tim Red Bull memastikan bahwa mereka finis di posisi kedua, sementara tim Williams dengan 238 poin berada di urutan ketiga, tim Ferrari dengan 196 di urutan keempat, dan tim McLaren di urutan kelima.[5] Dengan diperkenalkannya poin ganda untuk balapan akhir musim di Grand Prix Abu Dhabi, maka Kejuaraan Dunia Pembalap tidak dapat dimenangkan di Brasil, karena kemenangan Hamilton dan Rosberg yang tidak mencetak poin akan membuat Rosberg tetap dalam pertarungan matematis, dengan menjadi 49 poin di belakang Hamilton.[6]
Pada pertengahan tahun 2014, trek ini dilapis ulang dalam upaya untuk mengurangi ketidakrataannya, dan pit lane diprofilkan ulang dengan entri yang dimajukan dari garis balapan di tikungan Arquibancadas, dan chicane ditambahkan ke jalur pit untuk memperlambat mobil lebih lanjut setelah serangkaian kecelakaan dalam balapan nasional. Pintu keluar pit lane dipindahkan lebih jauh dari trek untuk memungkinkan area run-off ke kiri tikungan kedua.[7] Selain itu, sebagai tanggapan atas kecelakaan yang telah menimpa Jules Bianchi di Grand Prix Jepang, maka prosedur yang berkaitan dengan lokasi derek traktor di chicane Senna "S" diubah.[8] Pirelli pada awalnya menominasikan ban Hard berpita oranye dan Medium berpita putih, seperti yang telah dilakukan sejak musim 2012. Namun, setelah Grand Prix Rusia satu bulan sebelumnya, banyak pembalap yang mengkritik rendahnya grip dan keausan yang terlihat di aspal baru Sochi Autodrom. Karena Autódromo José Carlos Pace benar-benar diaspal ulang, maka ada kekhawatiran bahwa senyawa keras tersebut akan "sangat berbahaya".[9] Seiring dengan persetujuan bulat dari kesebelas tim,[n 1] Pirelli akhirnya memutuskan untuk membawa ban Soft Medium dan pita kuning ke Brasil.[10]
Selama sesi latihan bebas, badan pengelola olahraga ini, yaitu Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, menguji ulang sistem Mobil Keselamatan Virtual, yang diusulkan untuk musim 2015 untuk menangani keadaan darurat trek balapan dengan lebih baik, menyusul insiden yang dialami oleh Bianchi di Grand Prix Jepang. Perubahan yang dilakukan pada sistem ini, relatif terhadap versi yang pertama kali diuji di Amerika Serikat, memuaskan para pembalap.[11] Ada pergantian pembalap untuk sesi latihan bebas pertama. Pembalap Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, yaitu Daniel Juncadella, menggantikan posisi Sergio Pérez di tim Force India untuk yang ketiga kalinya pada tahun 2014,[12] sementara kompetitor Seri GP2, yaitu Felipe Nasr, menggunakan mobil Bottas, dan pembalap yang berhasil finis di posisi ketiga di Kejuaraan Formula Tiga Eropa, yaitu Max Verstappen, mengemudikan mobil Toro Rosso Jean-Éric Vergne.[13]
Sesi latihan bebas
Ada tiga sesi latihan bebas — dua sesi latihan bebas yang berlangsung selama 90 menit pada hari Jumat, dan sesi latihan bebas lainnya yang berlangsung selama satu jam pada hari Sabtu — sebelum balapan hari Minggu.[14] Rosberg berhasil menjadi yang tercepat di sesi latihan bebas pertama, yang berlangsung dalam cuaca kering dan hangat, dengan catatan waktu putaran 1 menit, 12,764 detik, dua per sepuluh detik lebih cepat dari rekan setimnya Hamilton di urutan kedua. Daniil Kvyat, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Verstappen, Pastor Maldonado, Kimi Räikkönen, Kevin Magnussen, dan Ricciardo menduduki posisi ketiga sampai kesepuluh.[13] Selama sesi latihan bebas tersebut, di mana para pembalap berjuang dengan cengkeraman di trek yang dilapis ulang, Juncadella berputar di tikungan keenam, dan kehilangan kendali atas bagian belakang mobilnya, menabrak penghalang di tikungan kedelapan,[13] merusak kerucut hidung mobilnya dan suspensi,[15] dan menghentikan sesi. Tim Force India mengganti beberapa komponen hidrolik mesin setelah mengalami rendam panas, dan Pérez melewatkan sesi latihan bebas kedua.[16] Jenson Button tidak dapat berpartisipasi pada saat ia berhenti di pintu masuk pit lane dengan kegagalan sistem pemulihan energi.[15] Esteban Gutiérrez juga tidak dapat mencatatkan satu putaran karena mengalami masalah kelistrikan mesin pada mobilnya.[13]
Di sesi latihan bebas kedua, Rosberg berhasil mencatatkan waktu tercepat pada hari itu, dengan catatan waktu 1 menit, 12,123 detik; rekan setimnya, yaitu Hamilton, Räikkönen, Ricciardo, Bottas, Massa, Alonso, Kvyat, Vettel, dan Magnussen mengikuti di posisi sepuluh besar.[17] Sesi itu terganggu sebanyak tiga kali: Vergne berhenti di trek pada tikungan keempat ketika mesin mobilnya secara tiba-tiba kehilangan tenaga setelah 11 menit. Penghentian yang kedua disebabkan oleh mesin mobil Alonso yang terbakar, dan dia berhenti di lintasan lurusan antara tikungan ketiga dan keempat. Dia mengosongkan mobil Ferrari-nya untuk mendapatkan alat pemadam api untuk menghentikan kobaran api sebelum marshal bisa mencapai mobilnya. Hamilton menjadi yang tercepat kedua, dan berputar di bawah pengereman untuk chicane Senna S. Hamilton kemudian ditunda oleh mobil Lotus saat berada di putaran cepat. Kualifikasi
Sesi kualifikasi Sabtu siang dibagi menjadi tiga bagian. Bagian pertama berlangsung selama 18 menit, menghilangkan mobil yang menyelesaikan sesi ke-15 atau lebih rendah. Aturan 107% diberlakukan, mengharuskan pembalap untuk mencapai waktu dalam 107 persen dari putaran tercepat untuk bisa lolos. Bagian kedua berlangsung selama 15 menit, menghilangkan mobil di urutan ke-11 hingga ke-14. Sesi 12 menit terakhir menentukan posisi pole ke posisi kesepuluh. Mobil yang maju ke sesi terakhir tidak diperbolehkan untuk mengganti ban untuk memulai balapan, menggunakan ban yang mereka gunakan untuk mengatur waktu putaran tercepat di sesi kualifikasi kedua.[14] Rosberg berhasil menjadi yang tercepat di ketiga sesi kualifikasi, mengambil posisi terdepan yang kesepuluh di musim ini, dan yang ke-14 dalam karirnya, dengan catatan waktu 1 menit, 10,023 detik, memecahkan rekor putaran posisi pole tahun 2004 yang dipegang oleh Rubens Barrichello dengan enam-sepersepuluh detik.[19] Dia memenangkan Trofi Pole FIA pertama karena Hamilton tidak dapat menyalip total polenya dengan satu balapan tersisa.[19] Dia bergabung di baris depan grid bersama dengan Hamilton yang kehilangan waktu pada saat memasuki tikungan sepuluh dengan terlalu cepat, menyebabkan dia kehilangan kendali atas bagian belakang mobilnya. Massa memenuhi syarat di urutan ketiga; lalu lintas memperlambat waktu putaran terakhirnya, dan dia mengunci ban mobilnya di tikungan Senna S.[20] Masalah tekanan bahan bakar mematikan mesin mobil Massa.[21] Bottas berada di urutan keempat dan membatalkan putaran terakhirnya setelah mengunci ban mobilnya sebanyak tiga kali.[22]
Button dan Vettel menempati urutan kelima dan keenam.[19] Putaran waktu tercepat Button adalah yang pertama, tetapi ia gagal memperbaiki yang kedua. Balapan
The race began at 14:00 Brasilia Time (UTC−02:00).[2] The weather at the start was dry and sunny with an air temperature between 23 hingga 24 °C (73 hingga 75 °F) and a track temperature ranging from 46 hingga 50 °C (115 hingga 122 °F);[28] forecasts of rain for Sunday did not materialise. Sutil started from the pit lane after his mechanics reconfigured his car's cooling system. The first ten starters began on the soft compound tyres with four on the medium tyres.[29] When the race began, Rosberg maintained the lead at the Senna S chicane as Bottas was slow but returned to fourth place.[30] Heading into the Curva do Sol turn, Vettel over-committed in the braking zone and ran wide while defending from Magnussen. By doing so, Magnussen and Alonso demoted Vettel to eighth behind teammate Ricciardo.[29] Kvyat moved from 17th to 13th by the end of the first lap, while Sutil lost five positions over the same distance.[31] At the end of the first lap, Rosberg led Hamilton by 0.8 seconds,[32] who was followed in turn by, Massa, Bottas, Button, Magnussen, Alonso, Ricciardo and Gutiérrez.[31]
Rosberg began to pull away from Hamilton, opening up a 1.2-second lead over his teammate while Massa was a further one second behind Hamilton.[32] Ricciardo attempted to pass Vettel into the Senna S chicane on the start of the third lap but was not close enough to overtake.[32] Massa was the first driver to have severe blistering on the soft compound tyres and was the first of the leading drivers to make a pit stop at the end of lap five for the change to the medium compound tyres, with Vettel, Bottas and Button making similar stops on the following lap. Rosberg held a one-second lead over Hamilton and made his first pit stop from the lead at the end of lap seven. Hamilton was more conservative on his tyres and went half a second faster in clear air.[29] Massa was imposed a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane,[30] and Hamilton made his pit stop from the lead at the conclusion of lap eight and came out narrowly behind teammate Rosberg.[33]
With Hamilton's and Rosberg's pit stops completed, Hülkenberg and Kvyat were first and second, followed by Grosjean.[30] Traffic slowed Rosberg, allowing Hamilton to potentially attack his teammate.[33] Rosberg was protected from Hamilton overtaking on the main straight because he used DRS to defend himself since he was close behind Grosjean. He drew nearer to Kvyat and passed him for second on lap 12.[30] On the same lap, Button overtook Sutil for eighth place.[32] Mercedes instructed Hamilton to manage his right-rear tyre temperatures and lost more time to Rosberg by following Kvyat, who allowed Hamilton past before the Senna S chicane just as Hülkenberg had Rosberg close behind. Hülkenberg reported a blistered front-right tyre to Force India and Rosberg overtook him for the lead into the Senna S chicane at the start of lap 14.[30] Massa passed Grosjean and Bottas overtook Grosjean at the Senna S chicane for sixth place on lap 15.[30][32] With his front tyres blistered,[29] Hamilton used DRS to pass Hülkenberg into the Senna S chicane on the following lap.[30]
Massa drew closer to Kvyat and passed him into the Senna chicane for fourth place on lap 17 as Alonso overtook Sutil at the same turn for tenth on that lap. At the same time, Hülkenberg made his pit stop and rejoined the track in 15th.[30] Hamilton's right-front tyre was blistered but was not significantly hindered and set a new fastest lap to be 2.1 seconds behind Rosberg at the start of lap 20,[32] after Rosberg became aware of not over stressing his tyres and Hamilton being faster. The two drivers pulled away from Massa. Button drove close behind Bottas and used his DRS to pull away from Magnussen, Vettel, Alonso and Ricciardo.[29] Magnussen steered left to pass Grosjean for sixth on lap 23. Alonso attempted to pass Grosjean on the outside into the Senna chicane on the next lap but Grosjean blocked him. Alonso tried again on the main straight and overtook Grosjean before the Descida do Lago turn for seventh. Vettel also passed Grojean at the same turn.[30][33] Massa served his penalty on the 26th lap, and after taking it, had new tyres installed on his car.[32]
Rosberg made his second pit stop on the same lap, returning the lead to Hamilton.[33] Bottas also made a pit stop but a delay in fitting his unbuckled seat belt and adjusting it, allowed Button into fourth as Bottas fell to 12th.[29][32] Hamilton drove faster than any driver to try and take the lead after his pit stop.[32] Mercedes asked Hamilton on lap 28 to make an energy recovery switch to raise the harvesting rate but not a forward brake bias adjustment. When Hamilton braked for the Descida do Lado turn, his rear tyre locked, oversteered and spun onto the run-off area. Hamilton rejoined the track seven seconds later.[29] Hamilton made his pit stop on that lap and emerged in second, 7.4 seconds behind teammate Rosberg.[32] Button closed up to Kvyat and waited until the main straight to pass with DRS into the Senna chicane on lap 30.[30][33] Hamilton moved to within five seconds of his teammate Rosberg on blistered rear tyres by lap 35.[33] Räikkönen made a pit stop from third on the same lap but lost time after the front jack was lowered before his right-front tyre was installed. He rejoined the track in 13th, behind Grosjean.[30]
Vettel overtook Kvyat at the Senna chicane for fifth on lap 37.[30] Ricciardo's front-left suspension began to move unsteadily on the main straight on lap 39, and veered right into the Senna chicane. Ricciardo entered the pit lane to retire, ending a 15-race finishing streak extending back to the Grand Prix Malaysian.[34] Hülkenberg passed Bottas for eighth by putting him onto the run-off area at the Senna chicane on lap 42. Bottas defended from Räikkönen on the outside at Descida do Lago turn before going wide on the exit.[30][32] Bottas had a problematic pit stop on lap 44: one of his mechanics struggled to adjust the front wing and Bottas fell to 16th.[32] Magnussen had worse tyre degradation than his teammate Button and Alonso could not pass Button on the outside into the Senna S chicane on lap 45. The battle continued through the following corners but Button's defence into Descida do Lago turn compromised his exit and Alonso overtook him on the inside of turn five.[29][30]
Hamilton closed up to Rosberg by 1.9 seconds by the start of lap 50. Rosberg made his final pit stop from the lead that same lap.[32] Slower traffic delayed Hamilton, who rejoined just behind his teammate after his own pit stop.[29][33] Massa and Button made pit stops on that lap and they exited the pit lane in fifth and sixth, respectively. Button had closed up to Massa after the latter drove onto the incorrect pit box. Hülkenberg moved to third but Massa passed him into the Senna chicane on lap 54.[30] Hamilton attacked Rosberg, who responded by going faster than his teammate but Hamilton stayed close by with DRS on the straights. The duo pulled away from Massa and Räikkönen.[29] Slower traffic did not affect Rosberg and Hamilton enough to be slowed.[32] On lap 61, Räikkönen—on 25-lap worn tyres—blocked a pass by Button for fourth into the Senna chicane. Button held the racing line and drew alongside Räikkönen on the back straight before passing on the outside at the Descida do Lago turn.[30][32] Räikkönen lost momentum at the corner and Vettel passed him. Alonso began to battle teammate Räikkönen who defended over the next few laps.[29]
Grosjean stopped on track near a fire marshal with smoke billowing from his engine on lap 65 and retired from the race.[30][32] Hülkenberg passed Magnussen for eighth on lap 68,[30] while Räikkönen lost traction in his tyres at the bottom of the hill at the Senna S chicane, allowing teammate Alonso into sixth on the same lap.[29] Hamilton moved to within 0.8 seconds of his teammate Rosberg at the start of the final lap,[30] but Hamilton could not get close enough to pass Rosberg, who took his fifth victory of the season and the eighth of his career.[29][35] Massa finished third, with Button fourth, Vettel fifth, Alonso sixth from teammate Räikkönen, Hülkenberg eighth, and Magnussen ninth. Bottas held off Kvyat in the final laps to claim tenth. Maldonado, Vergne, Gutiérrez, Pérez and Sutil were the final finishers.[30] Mercedes took their 11th one-two finish of the season, breaking McLaren's 1988 record with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.[35] It was also the team's 15th victory of 2014, equalling McLaren and Ferrari's joint record.[36] There were seven lead changes in the race: three drivers reached the front of the field. Rosberg led four times for a total of 59 laps, more than any other driver.[1]
Pasca-balapan
At the podium interviews, conducted by three-time World Champion Nelson Piquet, Rosberg declared his happiness over the weekend sweep, having been able to feel comfortable to attack in his Mercedes.[37] Hamilton said despite his turn four spin, it had been "an amazing race" and praised his team for the work they put in and enjoyed his battle with Rosberg.[37] Massa said he was "grateful" for his fast car.[37] In the later press conference, Rosberg said it was important for him to improve after the United States, and was confident that he could control the gap to Hamilton and ensure he did not battle for the win.[37] When asked if his spin prevented him from winning the race, Hamilton said he felt it did and admitted his error. He said he felt the team's record-breaking race was "absolutely incredible" and called it an "unbelievable job" by Mercedes.[37] Massa said he thought his chances of a podium finish were diminished with his five-second time penalty but was unworried about parking in the wrong pit stall.[37]
Vettel explained his poor start triggered memories of his first lap collision with Bruno Senna in 2012, saying he felt Red Bull would be stronger against McLaren at the start but that it was highly competitive and was hoping to possibly finish in a higher position.[38] Williams' Head of Vehicle Performance Rob Smedley was angry with himself for not stopping Massa driving through the McLaren pit stall after the team switched garage positions for the race and exchanged words afterwards. He felt it should have been given more consideration and given advance warning. However he praised Bottas for scoring an extra point and described the Williams team's race as a "character building" event, something he was taught at Ferrari by technical director Ross Brawn.[39] Bottas said he had severe left-rear tyre graining on his final stint, causing him to slide massively and lose positions: "I was managing a lot at the beginning and then could just avoid [Daniil] Kvyat from overtaking. At one point there was some debris in the rear wing [as well], a tear off or something. [As I said] it was just not my day."[40]
Following Button's fourth-place finish, which was the fifth time in 2014 he achieved a top four finish, he said he did not compete to attempt to prove anything but was in the sport "to do my job and my job is to do the best job I can for myself and for the team and that's exactly what I did."[41] However, he was delighted to duel the Williams team, saying, "It was a lot of fun. And then the battle with Kimi Raikkonen, going past him was mega – I really enjoyed that. We're not the best of friends but we battle hard but clean."[41] Alonso was not frustrated with his teammate Räikkönen over their late-race battle for sixth: "The most important thing was not the battle with him, it was the battle with the other teams and we got some good points for Ferrari today. Even if I could have overtaken Kimi a little quicker I had to save a lot of fuel in the last couple of laps so a battle with Sebastian was never a possibility."[42] Räikkönen dismissed the battle as "normal racing" and felt it had not hindered his team because it would score the same number of points regardless of his finishing position.[42]
The press praised Rosberg. Andrew Benson of BBC Sport said his weekend was "copybook" and it was needed to "re-establish his position as a credible championship contender" to many people.[43] L'Équipe said Rosberg "demonstrated above all that he knew how to let the past, and his recent disappointments, behind him. He is psychologically ready to face his rival and lead the hard life until the last round of the last Grand Prix."[44] The Daily Telegraph's Formula One correspondent Daniel Johnson described Rosberg's performance as "the race of his life under relentless pressure" and called his victory "the finest of his career."[45] Writing for The Independent, David Tremayne wrote Rosberg had "finally avenged himself" on teammate Hamilton by winning and gave him realistic title chances by proving he could resist pressure.[46]
The result reduced Hamilton's World Drivers' Championship lead over Rosberg by seven points to 17.[5] Despite his retirement, Ricciardo had secured third place as no other driver could overtake his points total with one race remaining.[34] Vettel move to fourth with 159 points, two points ahead of fifth-placed Alonso.[5] Mercedes further extended their unassailable lead in the World Constructors' Championship to 278 points over Red Bull. Williams and Ferrari remained in third and fourth with 254 and 210 points and McLaren were fifth on 161 points with one race left in the season.[5] Despite his lead, Hamilton said he would take "zero comfort" for the season's final race: "There are 50 points to gain. The last race, you never know whats going to happen, so I'm going there to win."[47]
