Kota Taipei (Hanzi: 台北市, hanyu pinyin: Táibĕi Shì, bahasa Minnan: Tâipak Chi) adalah ibukota sementara Republik Cina serta merupakan kota terbesar di Taiwan. Banyak perusahaan industri dan jasa termasuk peralatan listrik dan elektronik, tekstil, logam, pembuatan kapal, dan motor yang menempatkan kantor pusatnya di kota ini.

Sejarah

Kawasan ini dikenal sebagai dataran rendah Taipei merupakan rumah dari suku Ketagalan sebelum abad ke 18. Suku Han China datang ke dataran Taipei pada tahun 1709. Tahun 1895 sewaktu Qing kalah dalam Perang Jiawu melawan Jepang, Taiwan terpaksa diserahkan ke Jepang dan menjadi koloninya. Kekaisaran Jepang kemudian mendirikan kantor kegubernuran (總督府)di Taipei. Kantor Gubernur ini kemudian yang menjadi Kantor Kepresidenan (總統府) sekarang ini. Selama 50 tahun Jepang berkuasa sampai kemudian Jepang kalah dalam Perang Dunia II dan harus menyerahkan Taiwan kembali ke pangkuan Tiongkok yang saat itu dikuasai oleh pemerintah nasionalis Kuomintang. Setelah perang saudara antara kaum komunis dan kaum nasionalis berakhir dengan kemunduran Chiang Kai-shek ke Taiwan, Taipei kemudian dijadikan sebagai ibukota sementara Republik China.

Letak geografis

Kota Taipei terletak di dataran rendah Taipei, dikelilingi oleh pegunungan terutama di bagian utara, timur dan tenggara. Titik tertinggi di dalam wilayah Kota Taipei adalah puncak Gunung Qixing (1120 meter).

Sungai-sungai di kota ini seluruhnya termasuk ke dalam DAS Tamsui yang bermuara ke Selat Taiwan dan Laut China Timur.

Taipei beriklim sub-tropis dengan suhu rata-rata 20 derajat Celsius sepanjang tahun. Namun, suhu terendah di musim dingin dapat mencapai 6 derajat Celsius sedangkan di musim panas dapat mencapai 34 derajat Celsius.

Kantor walikota Taipei berada di Distrik Xinyi yang merupakan distrik yang berkembang pesat dekade terakhir menjadi pusat komersial, pusat industri teknologi tinggi dan pemerintahan. Walikota Taipei merupakan jabatan yang sangat populer dan dianggap merupakan tiket untuk karir politik yang mulus di masa depan. Ini ditandai dengan penjabat walikota Taipei sering meraih popularitas tak kalah jauh dari jabatan di tingkat pusat.

Dewan Kota Taipei adalah badan legislatif daerah yang menjadi wakil rakyat untuk mengawasi jalannya pemerintahan. Dewan Kota Taipei beranggotakan 49 orang dari 12 distrik yang dibagi menjadi 6 daerah pemilihan dan 1 daerah pemilihan maya untuk penduduk aborigin.

Transportasi darat

Kereta api

Stasiun KA Taipei adalah stasiun kereta api terbesar di Taiwan. Taipei juga merupakan tempat pertumbuhan sistem kereta api yang pertama di Taiwan.

Stasiun KA Taipei selain menjadi stasiun kereta api juga mempunyai fungsi sebagai stasiun kereta transit cepat massal (MRT) dan juga kereta api super cepat yang telah mulai beroperasi sejak awal tahun 2007.

Transit cepat massal

Transit cepat massal (TCM) Taipei adalah kereta rel ringan yang menghubungkan stasiun-stasiun di dalam kota. Tidak seperti sistem TCM di kota-kota lainnya di dunia yang berada di bawah tanah, TCM Taipei memiliki rel di bawah tanah, di permukaan tanah dan rel layang.

Sistem TCM Taipei memiliki stasiun utama di stasiun kereta api Taipei. Saat ini memiliki 5 jalur rute yang menghubungkan Taipei dengan kota-kota di sekitarnya terutama yang terletak di Kabupaten Taipei.

Biaya minimum untuk TCM adalah NTD 20/orang dan maksimum NTD 65/orang.

Bus dan Taksi

Bus-bus di Kota Taipei melayani rute dalam kota, antar kota via jalan provinsi dan antar kota via jalan negara.

Sistem bus dalam kota dihubungkan dengan sistem TCM dengan perencanaan teratur seperti pembayaran yang dapat dilakukan dengan kartu pra-bayar TCM atau diskon biaya bus bila melakukan transit dari stasiun TCM.

Bus-bus antar kota biasanya dilayani oleh perusahaan swasta yang dipusatkan di Stasiun Bus Pusat Kota Taipei.

Taksi di Taiwan bercat kuning dan berplat dasar putih dengan tulisan merah. Biaya minimum taksi adalah NTD 70 untuk 1.5 meter pertama dan NTD 5 untuk setiap 300 meter serta NTD 5 untuk durasi 2 menit dengan kecepatan di bawah 5 km/jam.

Transportasi udara

Kota Taipei dapat diakses melalui 2 bandara:

Bandara Internasional Taoyuan berjarak 40 menit perjalanan darat via jalan bebas hambatan.

Transportasi Air

Taipei memiliki pelabuhan laut di Keelung. Namun pelabuhan ini mayoritas melayani peti kemas. Transportasi sungai muncul hanya sebagai atraksi wisata menyusuri Sungai Tamsui.
