Pandemi koronavirus 2019–2020 di Spanyol pertama kali dikonfirmasi pada tanggal 31 Januaryi 2020, ketika seorang turis Jerman dites positif di La Gomera, Kepulauan Kenari.[1] Hingga 24 Februari 2020, setelah ledakan jumlah kasus di Italia, Spanyol menemukan banyak kasus yang berhubungan dengan kluster Italia, berasal dari seorang doktor Italia yang berlibur ke Tenerife. Setelah itu, banyak kasus yang ditemukan di Tenerife dari orang-orang yang mengontak dokter tersebut.[5] Kasus-kasus yang lain yang berhubungan dengan orang-orang yang mengunjungi Italia juga ditemukan di Spanyol.[6][7][8]

Hingga 31 Maret 2020, ada lebih dari 95 ribu kasus dengan 8.464 orang korban yang meninggal.[4] Jumlah sesungguhnya orang yang terjangkit penyakit ini diperkirakan lebih tinggi, karena orang-orang yang tidak memiliki gejala-gejala COVID-19 tidak dites.[9][10] Hingga 21 Maret 2020, ada lebih dari 350 ribu tes untuk COVID-19 yang telah dibagikan.[11]

Sejak 13 Maret, sudah ada kasus di setiap dari 50 provinsi di Spanyol. Madrid merupakan kota dengan jumlah kasus dan korban terbanyak di Spanyol. Tenaga medis dan orang-orang yang tinggal di panti jompo mengalami tingkat infeksi yang sangat tinggi.[12] Hingga 25 Maret 2020, jumlah korban meninggal di Spanyol melebihi jumlah di Tiongkok; kedua setelah Italia di seluruh dunia.[13]

Pandemi koronavirus adalah pandemi yang disebabkan koronavirus (COVID-19) dan menyerang sistem pernafasan. Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) kemudian mengumumkan pandemi koronavirus sebagai pandemi dunia pada tanggal 11 Maret 2020.[14]

Dampak dan reaksi

  • 6 Maret, tersebar misinformasi[17] yang menyebabkan orang-orang menyerbu tempat-tempat perbelanjaan.[18]
  • 23 Maret, surat kabar The Guardian memberitakan bahawa rumah sakit dan panti jompo di Madrid kewalahan dengan pasien koronavirus.[20][21] Di beberapa panti jompo, orang-orang manula penghuni panti ditemukan ditelantarkan di tempat tidur mereka. Tentara Spanyol memberikan bantuan darurat. Menteri Pertahanan Spanyol mengatakan bahwa siapa pun yang ditemukan bersalah menelantarkan orang-orang tersebut akan dituntut.[20]
  • 28 Maret, surat kabar El País memberitakan bahwa paling tidak ada 9.444 tenaga medis yang terkena COVID-19, namun hanya 8,8% yang memerlukan perawatan rumah sakit.[22]

Pandemi ini juga telah mempengaruhi ekonomi Spanyol yang rapuh, dan diperkirakan akan membutuhkan suntikan 200 juta Euro.[21][23][24] As of 28 March, Goldman Sachs was predicting a double-digit GDP decline for Spain.[25]

On 29 February 2020, a woman who had arrived in Ecuador on 14 February from Spain tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and became the first case of coronavirus in the country. Days later she felt discomfort and fever, so she was hospitalised and underwent various tests. The person, 70 years old and with previous illnesses, was isolated and admitted “in intensive care”. According to Deputy Minister Julio López, her status was critical and her forecast was reserved.[26] On 13 March 2020, the first death (the first Ecuadorian infection case) was reported by the Minister of Public Health of Ecuador, Catalina Andramuño, during a press conference in Guayaquil.[27]

On 6 March, Peruvian Ministry of Health and President confirmed the first case in the country from a 25-year-old man who visited Spain, France and Czech Republic.[28]

On 8 March, Portugal confirmed a case originating from Spain.[29] On 10 March, a further case was detected and the following day (11 March) another three cases.[30][31]

On 10 March, a 40-year-old woman returning from Madrid, Spain was confirmed the first case in Panama.[32]

On 10, March, Honduras confirmed two cases of Coronavirus the first patient or patient 0 was a pregnant women who came from Spain on March 4 but was confirmed on the early morning of March 10 .[33]

On 13 March, Venezuelan Vice-President Delcy Rodríguez confirmed two cases of the virus in the state of Miranda.[34][35] Rodríguez asked all the passengers of the 5 and 8 March Iberia 6673 flight to immediately enter into a mandatory preventive quarantine since the two cases were from this flight.[36]

On 14 March it was reported that a woman coming from the Spanish city of Móstoles became the first case in Equatorial Guinea.[37]

On 17 March, a 47-year-old male Spanish national doing business in Macau tested positive; he took the SU2501 flight from Madrid to Moscow on 15 March, and then the SU204 flight from Moscow to Beijing. On 16 March, he took the NX001 flight from Beijing to Macau, arriving at Macau Airport at 8:00 pm of the same day.[38]

On 20 March, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea James Marape confirmed the first case in the country from a mine worker who had travelled from Spain.[39]
